From November 13 to 15, 2020, the Fifth National Youth Symposium on computational mechanics will be held in Nanjing. Professor Meng Qingguo, deputy director of Mathematical Science Department of NSFC, Professor Tang Hongwu, Secretary of Party committee of Hohai University and chairman of Jiangsu mechanics society, Professor Guo Xu, vice chairman of China mechanics society and director of special committee of computational mechanics, Professor of Dalian University of technology, and more than 60 young experts and scholars of computational mechanics from more than 30 universities and scientific research institutes in China participated in the activity.
Professor Tang Hongwu pointed out in his speech at the conference that computational mechanics has become an indispensable technical means in the construction of national economy and national defense, and computational mechanics is an important part of the mechanics discipline of Hohai University. It is hoped that the forum will be a fruitful forum for outstanding young scholars to discuss and develop the discipline of mechanics.
On behalf of the Department of Mathematical Sciences of NSFC, director Meng Qingguo congratulated the seminar on its smooth opening. He pointed out that computational mechanics of Hohai University has a long history and profound foundation, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China has long been concerned about and supported the development of young talents. Young scholars of computational mechanics should be all inclusive, have in-depth exchanges and cooperation, and promote the development of computational mechanics and mechanics in China in combination with national needs.
President Guo Xu said that the young scholars' Symposium on computational mechanics has become a high-quality platform for academic exchanges and discussions among young scholars of computational mechanics in China. He hoped that young talents of mechanics would deeply discuss the development plan of computational mechanics with their predecessors.
At the seminar, Meng Qingguo, researcher of NSFC, Lu Tianjian, Professor of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Zhuang Zhuo, Professor of Qinghua University, and Huang Dan, Professor of Hohai University, respectively presented the following topics: NSFC project and deepening reform, ultra light porous structure design and mechanical innovation, guiding the development of computational mechanics with discipline frontier and national demand, and water conservancy project 16 outstanding young experts and scholars of computational mechanics from various units made a wonderful report.
This seminar is jointly organized by the school of mechanics and materials of Hohai University and the mechanics society of Jiangsu Province. It aims to deepen the connection between outstanding scholars of computational mechanics, help young talents of computational mechanics make greater contributions to the construction of mechanics discipline and the development of science and technology in China, and further enhance the academic influence of Hohai University in the field of computational mechanics.
